Party Hostels in Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan’s nightlife runs along a 500-metre strip of sand where the island’s only road meets the sea. By 10 p.m., the beachfront is packed with backpackers spilling out of places like Sama Sama Reggae Bar and Rudy’s Pub, cocktails in hand, feet in the sand. The hostel scene is small but social: most places have a pool bar that doubles as the de facto common room. Gili Castle and Broken Compass are the two biggest names, both five minutes’ walk from the harbour and ten from the southern end of the strip. Expect dorms from £4 a night, happy hours until 8 p.m., and a crowd that’s more about beach parties than clubbing till dawn.

Which Area Should You Stay In?

How Gili Trawangan's nightlife zones break down

Main Beachfront Strip

A 500-metre stretch of sand where the island’s only road meets the sea. Bars, hostels, and warungs line the shore, with music pumping from 8 a.m. till 2 a.m. The harbour is at the southern end, and the quieter north starts near Club Love.

Best for: Nightlife and hostels

Inland (Near the Main Strip)

A grid of dirt paths five minutes’ walk from the beach. Cheaper warungs, minimarts, and hostels like M Box and Jati Hostel are here. Nadin Store, a budget traveller’s lifeline, is on one of these side streets.

Best for: Budget stays and local food

North Gili T

The island’s quieter side, starting 15 minutes’ walk north of the harbour. Fewer bars, more guesthouses, and better snorkelling spots. The Gili Beach Club is the main nightlife draw here.

Best for: Sunset views and snorkelling

Bars and Clubs in Gili Trawangan

Where the hostel pub crawls end up, and where to go on your own

Sama Sama Reggae Bar

The island’s unofficial backpacker HQ. Reggae and drum & bass play all day, and the happy hour (4–8 p.m.) serves £1.50 cocktails. By midnight, the sand is packed with people dancing in bare feet. Expect fire dancers after 11 p.m. on weekends.

Rudy’s Pub

A two-storey beachfront bar with pool tables and a rooftop terrace. The crowd is mostly 20-somethings from Australia and Europe. £1 Bintangs during happy hour, £2.50 after. Gets loud around 10 p.m. when the live band starts.

Club Love

The only venue with a proper dance floor and DJ booth. Plays house and techno from 11 p.m. till 3 a.m. Entry is free, but drinks cost £3–£4. The crowd is a mix of backpackers and locals. Five-minute walk north of the harbour.

Practical Info

🚤
Getting to Gili T
Fast boats from Bali leave from Padang Bai and Serangan. Return tickets cost around £25–£30 if you book at the harbour. The ride takes two hours. From Lombok, public boats run from Bangsal Harbour; tickets are £2 each, but you’ll need a taxi or shuttle to get there from the airport.
🚲
Getting around
The island is 3 km long and 2 km wide: small enough to walk everywhere. Bikes cost £2 a day, but the sand makes cycling slow. Horse carts (cidomo) are the only other option; agree on a price before you get in: £1–£2 for short trips.
💰
Money and costs
ATMs are clustered near the harbour; bring enough cash for your stay. A large Bintang costs £1.50 in happy hour, £2.50 after. Street food (nasi goreng, mie goreng) is £1–£1.50. Hostel dorms start at £4, private rooms at £10.
🍻
Nightlife hours
Bars open by 8 a.m. for breakfast cocktails and stay busy until 2 a.m. Club Love, the closest thing to a nightclub, closes at 3 a.m. Happy hours run 4–8 p.m. most days.
🍽️
Eating on a budget
Nadin Store, a five-minute walk inland from the main strip, sells instant noodles, eggs, and bread for under £1. Warungs along the beachfront serve nasi campur for £1.50. Bargain hard: prices are often inflated for tourists.
🌊
Swimming safety
The east coast has strong currents; swim only on the west side, where the bars are. Lifeguards are rare, so stick to shallow water if you’ve been drinking.
