Party Hostels in Bohol

Bohol's party scene is quieter than Boracay's, but that's exactly the point. The island draws backpackers who want white-sand beaches by day and cold San Miguel on a breezy terrace by night. Alona Beach on Panglao Island is the main hub, a compact strip of bars, dive shops and guesthouses where the social scene sorts itself out naturally after sunset. Reggae Bar and Alona Kew White Beach are the kind of spots where you end up chatting with strangers until the early hours without really planning to. Tagbilaran City, a short jeepney ride from the causeway to Panglao, has a handful of local bars around Torralba Street worth checking out if you want something less touristy. The hostel scene here is growing, with Mad Monkey Panglao bringing its social-first formula to the island and a few smaller guesthouses keeping dorm beds genuinely affordable. It's not Amsterdam. It is, however, a very good time.

Which Area Should You Stay In?

How Bohol's nightlife zones break down

Alona Beach, Panglao Island

This is where Bohol's backpacker scene actually lives. A 1.5-kilometre strip of white sand lined with guesthouses, dive shops, beach bars and cheap restaurants, Alona Beach is compact enough to walk end to end in twenty minutes. Most of the hostels, including Mad Monkey, are within a few minutes of the main strip.

Best for: Party hostels, beach bars and diving

Tagbilaran City

Bohol's provincial capital sits on the southwest coast of the main island, about 45 minutes from Alona by road. Torralba Street and the area around the City Mall have the most life after dark, with a handful of local bars and karaoke joints that see very few tourists. It's also where you'll find the main ferry port, banks and the island's best ATMs.

Best for: Local bars, transport links and city amenities

Panglao Town

The main settlement on Panglao Island sits roughly in the middle of the island, between the airport and Alona Beach. It's quieter than Alona but a useful base if you want cheaper accommodation away from the beachfront premium. The Panglao public market is good for an early breakfast, and several guesthouses here offer the same easy access to the beach via a short tricycle ride.

Best for: Budget guesthouses and local markets

Bars and Clubs in Bohol

Where the hostel pub crawls end up, and where to go on your own

Reggae Bar

One of the most consistently popular spots on Alona Beach, with live acoustic sets most evenings and a laid-back crowd of divers and backpackers. Buckets of beer are cheap, the fires go on the beach after dark, and it's the kind of place where a quick drink turns into a full night out.

Alona Kew White Beach Bar

A favourite for sundowners, this beachfront bar fills up from around 5pm with a mix of travellers and local expats. DJ nights on weekends keep things going later than most spots on the strip, and the cocktail menu is more ambitious than you'd expect for a beach bar.

Hama Bar

A small, sociable bar a short walk from the main Alona strip, popular with divers finishing late-night refreshers and backpackers who want cheaper drinks away from the beachfront premium. Happy hour runs until 7pm with San Miguel bottles going for around ₱60.

Mad Monkey Panglao Bar

The in-hostel bar at Mad Monkey is the social centre of Panglao's backpacker scene. Regular drinking games, themed nights and a pool make it easy to meet people without setting foot off the property. It draws both hostel guests and walk-ins from neighbouring guesthouses.

Why Not Bar and Restaurant

A long-running spot on Alona Beach with a reputation for staying open later than most. The crowd is a reliable mix of backpackers, island-hopping day-trippers and dive instructors unwinding after work. Draught beer and pizza make it a solid choice for an evening base.

Coco Amigos

Slightly more upbeat than the typical beach shack, Coco Amigos plays a mix of pop and dance tracks and gets genuinely busy on Friday and Saturday nights. The cocktail pitchers are good value and the outdoor seating spills right onto the sand.

Practical Info

✈️
Getting to Bohol
Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG) receives direct flights from Manila, Cebu and a handful of other Philippine cities. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines both serve the route, with fares from around ₱800–₱2,500 depending on how far in advance you book. Alternatively, fast ferries from Cebu City's Pier 1 reach Tagbilaran City in roughly two hours and cost around ₱250–₱400.
🛵
Getting around Bohol
Hiring a scooter is the most practical way to explore the island, with daily rental rates around ₱400–₱600 from shops near Alona Beach. Tricycles cover short hops, including the run between Alona Beach and Panglao town for about ₱50–₱80. Jeepneys connect Tagbilaran City to other towns cheaply, though schedules are irregular.
🏖️
Alona Beach to Tagbilaran
Alona Beach sits on Panglao Island, linked to the Bohol mainland by a short causeway. A tricycle from Alona to Tagbilaran City takes around 40–50 minutes and costs ₱150–₱200 for a special ride. Shared jeepneys are cheaper but require a connection in Panglao town.
💸
Costs and currency
Bohol is affordable even by Philippine standards. Dorm beds start at around ₱350–₱600 per night, and a decent meal from a local carenderia runs ₱80–₱150. ATMs are available in Tagbilaran City and near Alona Beach, though the beach-side machines run out of cash on busy weekends, so withdraw what you need in the city.
🌊
Diving and island hopping
Panglao's house reef and nearby Balicasag Island are among the best dive sites in the Visayas. Fun dives cost roughly ₱800–₱1,200 each, with dive shops clustered along Alona Beach. Island-hopping boat tours, which typically include Balicasag, Virgin Island and dolphin watching, run around ₱1,200–₱1,800 per person.
📶
SIM cards and connectivity
Pick up a Smart or Globe SIM card at the airport or in Tagbilaran City for ₱40–₱100, then load data packages from around ₱99 for several gigabytes. Wi-Fi at hostels and beach bars on Alona is generally reliable, though speeds can drop in the evenings when everyone is online at once.
