Party Hostels in Koh Tao

Koh Tao’s nightlife kicks off at Sairee Beach, where beachfront bars spill onto the sand and fire dancers light up the shore by 9 PM. The island’s party hostels cluster here, turning travellers into instant mates over cheap buckets and poolside barbecues.

Revolution Koh Tao sets the pace with daily events: think beer pong at noon and pool parties that roll into sunrise. A five-minute walk south, Savage Hostel’s rooftop bar serves cocktails for 180 THB while backpackers queue for the nightly pub crawl. Most hostels sit within 500 metres of each other, so you’ll rarely need more than flip-flops to hop between them.

Which Area Should You Stay In?

How Koh Tao's nightlife zones break down

Sairee Beach

The island’s nightlife centre, where hostels, bars, and dive shops line a 1.5 km stretch of sand. Most pub crawls start here, and the beachfront path is lit until 2 AM. Landmarks include Choppers Bar at the north end and Fishbowl Beach Bar at the south.

Best for: Party hostels and beachfront bars

Mae Haad

The main village, where ferries dock and budget eats cluster around the pier. Nightlife is low-key: think reggae bars and seafood shacks. Most travellers stay here for convenience, then scooter to Sairee for parties. Walking distance to the night market.

Best for: Ferry access and local food

Chalok Baan Kao

A quieter bay on the south coast, with a handful of hostels and dive schools. Bars close early, but the beach is empty at sunrise. Good for a recovery day after Sairee. Ten-minute scooter ride from Sairee Beach.

Best for: Quiet recovery and diving

Bars and Clubs in Koh Tao

Where the hostel pub crawls end up, and where to go on your own

Choppers Sports Bar

The island’s pub crawl starts here every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Expect free shots, beer pong, and a queue by 8 PM. The bar stays open late for crawl after-parties, with buckets at 200 THB. Crowd is mostly 18–30, backpacker-heavy.

Savage Hostel Rooftop Bar

Koh Tao’s highest rooftop pool bar, with views over Sairee Beach. Happy hour runs 5–7 PM (cocktails 180 THB). The hostel’s own pub crawl meets here first, so it’s packed by 7.30 PM. Music leans house and throwback pop.

Lotus Bar

Fire shows start at 9 PM on the beach, drawing crowds for the free entertainment. Drinks are 100–150 THB, and the bar stays open until 3 AM on weekends. Reggae and techno dominate the playlist. Five-minute walk north of Choppers.

Fishbowl Beach Bar

Sand underfoot, bean bags, and buckets for 180 THB. The bar hosts foam parties every Friday, with entry free for hostel guests. Gets busy from 6 PM as the sun sets. Ten-minute walk south of Savage Hostel.

The Office Pub

Darts, pool tables, and cheap Chang beer (50 THB). The pub crawl often stops here second, so it’s a good spot to join mid-route. Open from 4 PM until late. Located on the main road behind Sairee Beach.

Su Bar

Koh Tao’s only dedicated cocktail bar, with mixologists who’ve worked in Bangkok. Cocktails cost 220–280 THB, but happy hour (6–8 PM) knocks 50 THB off. Small dance floor; house and deep house after 10 PM. Five-minute walk from Choppers.

Practical Info

🚌
Getting to Koh Tao
Ferries run from Surat Thani and Chumphon; tickets cost 400–600 THB one-way. Lomprayah and Seatran Discovery are the most reliable operators. The crossing takes about 2 hours from Chumphon or 3.5 hours from Surat Thani. If you fly, book a combined air-ferry ticket to Surat Thani: it saves time and often costs less than a domestic flight to Koh Samui.
🛵
Getting around
Scooter hire is 250 THB per day. Most hostels rent them directly. Taxis are scarce; songthaews (shared pickups) run along Sairee Beach for 100 THB per ride after dark. Walking is easiest in Sairee: everything from Revolution Hostel to Choppers Bar is under 15 minutes on foot.
💰
Daily budget
Backpackers spend around 900–1,200 THB per day. A dorm bed costs 250–400 THB, meals are 120–200 THB, and a large Chang beer is 60–80 THB in bars. Pub crawl tickets run 600–800 THB, including free shots and bar hops.
🍻
Nightlife hours
Beach bars open by 10 AM but stay quiet until sunset. Clubs and hostel bars fill up from 11 PM, with last orders at 2 AM. Some venues, like Lotus Bar, keep serving until 3 AM if the crowd’s still going.
📅
Best time to party
December to March is peak season: expect packed bars and higher prices. April’s Songkran parties are wild but hot. May to October sees fewer crowds and cheaper beds, though some hostels close for renovations.
📱
Staying connected
Grab a DTAC or AIS SIM at the pier for 50–100 THB. Most hostels offer free Wi-Fi, but speeds drop during peak hours. Choppers Bar and Savage Hostel have backup routers for pub crawl sign-ups.
