Riga’s Old Town is where the night starts. By 22:00, the cobblestones outside **The Naughty Squirrel** are already humming with groups spilling out of the hostel bar. The place packs in backpackers with AK-47 shooting nights and beer pong tournaments, all fuelled by local draft beer for under €3 a pint. Just five minutes’ walk away, **Livu Square** is lined with bars that stay open until 05:00, each one louder than the last.
Hostels here aren’t just beds: they’re social hubs. Most run daily pub crawls, winter bobsledding, or beer tastings, so you’ll meet people even if you arrive solo. Dorm beds rarely top €25, even in high season, and many hostels have on-site bars that keep the party going without the cover charge.

The happy hours from their on-site 24h bar will surely make you smile. They have also other discounts and fun activities like Beer Pong, Food Nights, Trivia Nights, Movie Nights and Pub Crawls. You can also go husky sledding, Latvian beer tasting and rifle shooting! Can't really ask for more.
With a 2 stories on-site Pub as a popular hangout for locals and travellers and open until 2-3am, things get crazy. It is also located right in Old Town, with very friendly staff, insanely cheap happy hour and even a free breakfast beer (yes, you read correctly... hair of dog anyone?).
Although it is not specifically a party hostel, it is still a nice place to stay for people who want to party. It has a bar inside, so you can still have a great time and meet new people. You can chill in a hot tub. The location is perfect for travelers who are interested in history and partying.
Organised nights out with a local guide
This crawl visits three bars and one club in the Old Town, with a free beer or shot at each stop. The group meets at 21:00 outside **Paddy Whelan’s** on **Grecinieku iela**. Expect 50–100 people, mostly backpackers. The crawl ends at **Coyote Fly** or **Skyline Bar**, depending on the night.
Run by the hostel, this crawl starts at 21:30 in the hostel bar on **Kalku iela**. It includes two free shots, a beer at each bar, and entry to a club. The group is smaller: usually 20–30 people: and the crowd is rowdier. It’s a good option if you’re staying at the hostel.
How Riga's nightlife zones break down
The historic centre is where most hostels and bars are clustered. Narrow cobblestone streets lead to hidden courtyards with beer gardens and live music. By midnight, **Livu Square** is packed with groups spilling out of clubs. It’s touristy but undeniably lively: expect street performers and touts selling pub crawl tickets.
A 15-minute walk from the Old Town, this area is quieter but still central. **Brīvības iela** is the main drag, with supermarkets, budget hostels, and local cafés. It’s where you’ll find **Coco Hostel**, a solid choice if you want to sleep but still be close to the action.
Across the Daugava River, this neighbourhood feels more local. **Kalnciema Quarter** has a Saturday market with food stalls and live music. It’s a good spot for daytime exploring, but nightlife is limited to a few bars. Hostels here are rare, but it’s worth visiting for the market.
Where the hostel pub crawls end up, and where to go on your own
This hostel bar is the default meeting spot for backpackers. Expect beer pong tournaments, cheap local beer (€2.50 a pint), and a crowd that’s up for anything. It gets packed by 22:00, especially on pub crawl nights. The vibe is rowdy but friendly: staff organise AK-47 shooting and beer tastings during the day to keep the group together.
A rooftop bar with views over the Old Town and Daugava River. Cocktails cost €8–10, but happy hour (17:00–19:00) knocks them down to €5. It’s a mix of backpackers and locals, and the music leans toward house and R&B. Get there early if you want a table: it fills up by 20:00.
A two-floor club with a dance floor that fits 500 people. Entry is usually €5–10, but hostel pub crawls often get in free. The music is mainstream EDM and hip-hop, and the crowd is mostly 18–25. It’s open until 05:00, but the queue gets long after midnight: go before 23:30 to skip it.
A rock and metal bar with live bands most nights. Entry is free, and beers cost €3–4. The crowd is older than most Old Town bars: expect tattoos and leather jackets. It’s small, so it gets sweaty by 23:00. If you’re into heavier music, it’s a welcome break from the EDM clubs.
An Irish pub that’s become a backpacker favourite. Pint of Guinness is €5, and the kitchen serves full Irish breakfasts until 14:00. It’s a good spot for daytime drinking or a break from the hostel: pool tables and sports on TV keep the crowd entertained. Gets busy after 18:00.
A basement bar with live Latvian folk music and cheap local beer (€2.50 a pint). It’s underground in every sense: low ceilings, candlelight, and a crowd that sings along. Entry is free, and it’s open until 02:00. If you want something different from the usual club scene, this is it.
A cocktail bar with a speakeasy feel. Drinks cost €7–10, but the bartenders put on a show with flair and fire. It’s small: only 20 seats: so it’s best for small groups. Open until 02:00, but it’s quieter after midnight. Try the ‘Riga Mule’ if you want something local.
